Yamaha Silent Pianos, your acoustic piano, whenever you want!

Yamaha Silent Pianos
For pianists looking for a companion on their musical journey, or to share the gift of music with their loved ones, Yamaha's exclusive SILENT Piano™ technology makes your piano completely adaptable to your needs: play whenever and however much you want, regardless of time.
In 1993, Yamaha introduced the first SILENT Piano™, pioneering this type of technology. Since then, 25 years of continuous research and development have allowed us to enjoy the sensations that only an acoustic piano can offer, even in complete silence.
SILENT Piano™ SH2 and SC2
The most realistic Yamaha CFX sound thanks to binaural recording and a touch-insensitive optical performance recognition system, for the best piano playing experience, even with headphones.
Meet the authentic SILENT Piano™
What is a SILENT Piano™?

When you activate the SILENT Piano™ function, the hammers stop striking the strings. At the same time, a complex system of optical sensors recognizes every movement of each key and pedal and sends it to the sound generating module. Play a real acoustic piano anytime, day or night, without disturbing others or being distracted. Yamaha's exclusive SILENT Piano™ System not only lets you play at any time, but also gives you the power to experiment with different sounds, easily record your performances, and use the latest music apps.
The sound of two of the best concert pianos at your fingertips

The new SILENT Piano™ SC2 lets you enjoy the sounds of two of the finest concert grand pianos: the Yamaha CFX and the legendary Bösendorfer Imperial. Each note has been sampled at a multitude of intensity levels for the most realistic experience possible. On one hand, the expressive sound of the Yamaha CFX, with a wide tonal palette ranging from brilliant highs to deep lows; on the other, the majestic Viennese sound of the Bösendorfer Imperial.
10 different instruments at your disposal
The SILENT Piano™ SC2 offers 10 different instrument sounds, including electric pianos, harpsichords, organs, strings, choirs, and synthesizers, so you can find the sound that best suits every song.
A rich and precise resonance
CFX Binaural Sampling

Yamaha's advanced binaural recording technology has been used to capture the sound of the CFX, our acclaimed concert grand piano. Using a special microphone system, we can deliver the sensations of sitting in front of this incredible instrument, so naturally you'll forget you're wearing headphones.
VRM Physical Modeling – the characteristic resonance of a concert grand piano

In a grand piano, the sound resonates throughout the body of the instrument, creating a characteristic reverberation that envelops the pianist. This phenomenon is replicated through the use of Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM). This unique system calculates the effects of the resonance of each frequency on the piano's various elements. This allows us to recreate the subtleties that bring the piano's sound to life with unprecedented realism.
Stereophonic Optimizer (Piano sounds, except CFX)
The Stereophonic Optimizer is an effect that reproduces the natural sense of distance, giving the playing experience a highly realistic feel, even when playing with headphones. This effect is enabled by default for all piano sounds except the CFX binaural sample.
Smoothed release, a response to the pianist's excellent touch, from staccato to legato

Thanks to Yamaha's Soft Release technology, the SILENT Piano™ SH2 offers unprecedented precision in both staccato and slower key releases. This improves the response to each pianist's unique touch.
End-of-note samples
The moment a pianist's fingers leave the keys on a grand piano creates a variation in the sound, as the dampers return to the strings to mute them. End-of-note samples add these string-damper interactions to accurately reproduce even the most subtle effects on the sound, always with the greatest possible realism.
Yamaha's exclusive technology ensures the best piano touch
Key sensors

Beneath each of the 88 keys is a Yamaha-exclusive optical detection system. The system consists of a light emitter and receiver fixed to the keyboard bed, with a thin, lightweight, grayscale-graded film (darker at one end and transparent at the other) passing between them, affixed to the key. As the key moves, the amount of light allowed to pass through varies, and by measuring the amount of light passing through, we can determine the key's position at all times. All this without adding any friction or additional steps to the piano's mechanism.
Quick Escape System

SILENT Piano™ SH2 grand pianos feature Yamaha's exclusive Quick Escape System, which allows the muting mechanism to maintain the piano's touch when played traditionally. And when you need to mute the instrument's acoustic sound, the action adapts to provide the same feel, weight, and response, so you can practice anytime, anywhere.
General Functions
Smart Pianist App

The “Smart Pianist” app (available as a free download) allows you to choose sounds, adjust the metronome, or edit different sound parameters in a graphical and intuitive way, and you can even use it to display sheet music.
With the USB-WiFi adapter UD-WL01 (not included) you can use Smart Pianist wirelessly.
A control panel with an elegant and simple design

The control panel has been redesigned to blend seamlessly into the piano's design. Its operation has also been adapted to facilitate adjustments from the pianist's position.

For pianos in a polished white finish, the control unit is also white.
Connections

The USB TO HOST connector allows you to connect the system to a computer, mobile phone, or tablet for direct, high-quality audio recording without the need for additional equipment. The AUX IN connector allows you to input audio from other devices, such as music players, into the module and mix it with your performance.
Audio and MIDI recording and playback functions
